Event Description

Champion United States figure skaters will perform to live orchestral performances of progressive rock music at the University of Colorado Ice Arena. Stephen Chasman (Edges and Dreams), 7k Skating Academy and Mountain Edge Ice Arena are partnering up with Intermezzo Academy of Music in Westminster for a year-end fundraiser performance that will help support all three nonprofit organizations.

The exhibition-style performance will be held Friday, May 11 at the University of Colorado Ice Arena in Boulder. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. Ticket holders are encouraged to arrive at 5:30 due to traffic congestion and parking availability in Boulder.

The show will feature top U.S. skaters Jordan Moeller and Ben Jalovick, will include other up-and-coming skaters from both skating organizations. Kori Ade and Stephen Chasman, the coaches of several of these fine athletes, are working closely with the musicians of Intermezzo to refine the programs and musical nuances.

“Arranging and teaching the music has been one of the most fun challenges I’ve ever tackled,” says Linda Bolander, Executive Director of Intermezzo and the show’s co-director. “As an adult skater myself, I understand the little details that can make or break a program and teaching those aspects of the performance to non-skating music students has definitely been a welcomed break from the norm.”

Coach Kori Ade has also enjoyed the creation of something new for musicians and figure skaters. "The 7k International Skating Academy is proud to team up with the Mountain Edge Skating Club of Colorado and the Intermezzo Academy of Music to create a memorable and magical evening of combining music, artistry and athleticism.  Please join us for an incredible night of inspiration, entertainment, and family fun!"

Stephen Chasman, producer/co-director/promoter, says that this is a great starting point but he will build it further every year. “We hope to have bigger and better venues and new musical artists to work with Intermezzo each year to further complement elite figure skating.”

This elevated ice show experience will also include skaters from the local north suburbs, like C.U. Boulder student Andrew Austin and Westminster’s Alex Rogers, who moved from South Dakota to train with coach Cindy Sullivan at The Ice Center at the Promenade in Westminster.
