Event Description

BOULDER STORY SLAM FEATURES PROMINENT FRONT RANGE TALENT

OCTOBER’s story theme: TEACHER TEACHER!

TRUTH BE TOLD, Colorado’s premier story slam, returns to Shine Restaurant and Gathering Place Sunday, October 19 with featured storytellers from Denver, Boulder, and Longmont.  Dee Covington, a founding member of Denver’s Curious Theater Company and Henry Award winning actress will go up against acclaimed Boulder comedian Nancy Norton and Longmont’s Eryc Eyl, known to audiences as DJ SaviorBreath, in what has been called “the Olympiad of storytelling.”

In addition to the pre-selected storytellers, co-hosts Nina Rolle and Johanna Walker open up the competition to the audience, inviting all those who have prepared a five-minute, true life story to put their names in a hat with the hopes of being selected to tell it on stage.

The winner of each Truth Be Told story slam is invited back to tell another story at the 2nd annual All-Star Grand Slam, which, we are pleased to announce, will be held at eTown Hall on Feb 22, 2015.

Boulder performing artists Nina Rolle and Johanna Walker  co-produce and co-host this community arts series. Rolle is a voiceover actor and musician known locally for her original, award-winning show, ZEN CABARET: a contemplative burlesque. Walker, a teaching artist and public speaking coach, teaches the solo performance-making class, FEARLESS SOLOS: writing and performing your stories.

Between stories, Rolle and Walker perform song medleys and one-line stories based on the evening’s theme, creating a one-of-a-kind event that is equal parts story hour, competition, and cabaret. Musical guests this month are multi-instrumentalist Greg Laliberte of Ginga, bassist Kevin Crouse, and Sharon Glassman, frequent Truth Be Told story contributor, and author of the comic novel Blame it on Hoboken.

The theme for October’s slam event is “Teacher, Teacher!”

TRUTH BE TOLD: Boulder’s Bi-Monthly Story Slam will be held on Sunday, October 19 at Shine Restaurant and Gathering Place, 2017 13th St, in Boulder. Doors open at 7pm. Show starts 7:30. Admission is $12 in advance, $15 at the door. $20 for guaranteed front row seats.
