We put the heart in “I heart Colorado.” Made up of talented and experienced technicians and staff, Heart Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric believes in Colorado and our neighbors. And, as we watched our neighbors to the north and northwest of Denver, escape the destruction of recent wildfires with little more than the clothes on their backs, we knew we needed to help.

On October 28, 2020, the Heart Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric family established a GoFundMe campaign with the sole purpose of creating awareness of the devastation, loss, fear and heartbreak felt by the residents now displaced. Inspired by Kyle Clark of 9News’ Micro-Giving efforts, we seek to raise $5000, of which 100% of the proceeds goes to the Red Cross Colorado Wildfire Relief Fund. All donations go toward sheltering families (and COVID-19 concerns make matters worse), serving meals, delivering relief supplies, providing medical care, supporting emergency responders and assisting these families with recovery plans.

“The ongoing drought and high temperatures have left most of the state with extreme fire risk. Despite the snowfall last week, the fires continue to burn and new ones are being sparked. Each one of our employees loves this great state of Colorado and can’t help but want to aid those in such tremendous need,” says Richard Anderson, president of Heart Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric. “Because of the pandemic, everyone is forced to stand by and watch rather than jump in with both feet to help. Raising these donations is the least we can do and still effectively provide aid.”

Unlike with previous wildfire emergencies, community and group shelters are not an option due to COVID-19. Instead, the Red Cross reported paying for more than 27,000 hotel nights in Larimer County. Thankfully local hotels and KOA Campgrounds are providing drastically discounted housing for thousands of Cameron Peak and East Troublesome Fire evacuees. Despite the discounts, housing costs alone for evacuees are more than anticipated.
Students ages 8-18 who are interested in performing in this full-length musical production are asked to sign up in advance for a 5-minute audition time to perform a short monologue and song selection and will have time to highlight skills for the director.

Singin’ in the Rain follows BackStory’s production of Meredith Willson’s The Music Man performed last November at the Broomfield Auditorium and Hello, Shakespeare! performed this July at Broomfield’s outdoor amphitheater as part of BackStory’s successful summer fundraiser. “After the success of last year’s production of The Music Man, we are incredibly lucky to have Felicia Bredenberg return as Stage Director for this show and are excited to announce that Daniel Flores will join us as Music Director,” said BackStory Theatre Program and Artistic Director, Mary Wilkie. “With rehearsals running from the end of August through the show dates in January and including over 130 hours of rehearsal and instruction time, the dedication, professionalism, and positive attitude of the directors are a huge factor,” confided Wilkie. “Although most of these kids will have acted in productions before, they are still learning the ropes and will inevitably see amazing growth in their confidence and acting ability by the end of this experience. ”

With BackStory Theatre’s long history of providing theatre education for young people in Broomfield, Singin’ in the Rain and other fully staged productions provide an opportunity for BackStory’s students to showcase their hard work and accomplishments. “BackStory Youth Theatre is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to theatre education,” said BackStory Theatre Stage Director and Class Instructor Felicia Bredenberg. "I get to see my students use the skills they’ve learned in a live production. It is magical for the students and teacher!"

“I was amazed at the quality of the performances for last year’s production of The Music Man and how so many young actors were able to come together for such a complex and quality show. I can’t wait to see how the kids do with Singin’ in the Rain,” said BackStory Theatre staff member Michelle Hoffman.

Student actors interested in auditioning for the production can sign up online at www.backstorytheatre.org. More Information on the audition process and fall rehearsal schedule is available online, or contact BackStory Theatre at 720-263-0836. Tickets for the show will be available soon at BrownPaperTickets.com.

BackStory Theatre is a Broomfield-based 501(c)(3) organization which, through its BackStory Theatre Academy and BackStory Youth Theatre, provides affordable theatre education and performance opportunities to local children, adults, and families. Building from the belief that performing arts should be an integral part of every thriving community and made possible through individual donations and generous grants (including 2015-2016 support from Broomfield Community Foundation, Broomfield Health and Human Services Department, Broomfield Arts, Culture, and Science Funding Program, and the Sheila Fortune Foundation) BackStory Theatre makes performing arts programs accessible to people from all economic backgrounds.

Written by Colorado teenager, Maya Claridge, who is also the spokesperson for Bullied To Bold, the book is striking a chord with teens and adults alike. "Every parent, teacher, grandparent and adult who interacts with teenagers today should read this book," said a representative for the Anti-bullying Coalition of America. "It depicts a raw and real case of bullying, showing adults how easily it happens without us knowing and how deadly it can be."

Claridge wrote the book to accompany her Bullied to Bold tour and to share more of her story. "I want kids to know that they can overcome being bullied and I want parents to know how to identify the signs," Claridge said.

Bullied for over two and a half years in middle school, Claridge says it was the “darkest and loneliest” time of her life and she doesn’t want anyone to feel that way. In January 2016, Claridge began traveling to schools and youth organizations throughout the state, sharing her story and spreading an anti-bullying message of hope and kindness. Her tour is called Bullied to Bold, which accurately reflects the change in Claridge’s life. (www.BulliedToBold.com)

Claridge’s message is powerful not because her experience with bullying is worse than the norm but because it is similar to what thousands of kids are facing every day across the country and around the globe, making her story relatable. “Bullying is a problem we can’t ignore,” says Claridge. “It not only hurts kids, it causes them to hurt and even kill themselves.”

Through the tour, her song and now her book release, Claridge hopes to inspire the youth toward both survival and change, emphasizing the need for her generation to “Stop Hate Before it’s Too Late.”

The song, written and recorded by Claridge in conjunction with LA based Indasoul Records, is called PUT IT DOWN and encourages kids to put down the things that hurt them and the things they use to hurt themselves and overcome. It is available on iTunes.

In the book, entitled, PUT IT DOWN: Going from Bullied to Bold, Claridge tells her story and addresses not only bullying victims, but bystanders, parents, teachers and the bullies as well. Her message is powerfully clear and a must-read for every pre-teen and teen. Claridge’s book is available in both print and Ebook from Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords.

Booked in many schools throughout the metro area, the response from both teachers and students has been overwhelming. A Silver Hills Middle School 6th grade teacher said, "Maya is amazing and the impact she has had on our students was incredible. I want her to come back and speak to the 6th graders every year." Another teacher told us that Maya's presentation was "better than any anti-bullying group we have brought into the school thus far." Students actually break in tears while she is speaking. "Maya opens her presentation with a video that is so real, it choked me up," said one 6th grade student. "Her message is powerful," a school counselor told us.

She was bullied for over two years in middle school and says it was the “darkest and loneliest time” of her life. With the hope of helping other kids who are experiencing bullying, Claridge began the Bullied to Bold tour, traveling to schools and youth related organizations throughout Colorado, sharing her story and message of hope. “I don’t want anyone to feel alone,” Claridge says. “I want them to know that they can overcome being bullied.”

Her message is one of inspiration, hope and strength as she encourages kids to put down their fear, put down the shame and rise above the pain.

Ironically, in the midst of the Bullied to Bold tour, Claridge is experiencing cyber-bullying from several teenage girls whom she has never met. “These girls have targeted Maya via Instagram and have posted numerous negative comments about her, mainly making fun of how she looks,” said Beverly Brenner, management and booking agent for the Bullied to Bold tour.

Claridge appears un-phased by the cyber-bullying attacks against her, stating, “I’ve dealt with bullies before and I refuse to give them the power to hurt me.”

Determined to continue reaching out to others with a message of kindness, Claridge does not respond to the negative comments she receives via social media. “They can say what they want to say about me but they’re mean words aren’t going to change who I am or what I’m doing,” Claridge says.

Claridge will appear on Colorado & Company (9News) on January 22, 2016 to promote the Bullied to Bold tour and her song entitled, PUT IT DOWN, which was written specifically for the tour and produced by Billboard award-winning producer, Marc Williams at Indasoul Records.

Highly Effective Lawn Care System for the Eco-Conscious Consumer

In celebration of Earth Month, Organo-Lawn is proud to re-introduce One Earth Weed Control and Fertilizer, a 100% organic post-emergent weed control and fertilizer application that will kill most broadleaf weeds within 48 hours. This exclusive new-and-improved formulation was created by and available in Colorado exclusively through Organo-Lawn. The revolutionary product is currently in the works of being licensed by Organo-Lawn to other organic lawn care companies across the country.

“We first introduced One Earth five years ago and it took three years of tweaking the formula to get it completely dialed in,” said Brad Wolfe, founder and CEO of Organo-Lawn. “One Earth Weed Control and Fertilizer is 100% organic and kills weeds in a lawn after they have germinated, and won’t damage the grass. Anybody that deals with organic products knows how hard it is to kill weeds but not damage the grass. We can do it and it happens fast.”

The product is a mix of ingredients that are all food grade. The main ingredients include clove oil, a special form of iron and an organic fertilizer similar to a Compost Tea. One Earth Weed Control is considered edible and is non-toxic to pets, people, and the planet. Within 48 hours of an application the weeds will turn black and die. One Earth Weed Control works exceptionally well on Colorado’s prodigious dandelions.

“Here at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, we use Organo-Lawn’s One Earth Weed Control product because it’s effective and most importantly, it’s non-toxic to pets, dogs, cats, and people!” said Rick Bettger, Facilities Manager.

Clove leaf oil and iron-based weed controls have traditionally been used as a non-selective weed and grass application, killing anything in its path. During the first few years of working with these products Organo-Lawn determined that if the application was too heavily it would kill both weeds and grass, and if too light it was completely ineffective. Organo-Lawn knew how to add additional ingredients to make the products more potent to weeds but less damaging to grasses. After a few years of adding different surfactants (wetting agents) Organo-Lawn discovered which additional ingredients made the product most effective. Now the formulation is consistent in all conditions-warm and cool temperatures, drought and moisture, etc. Finally, Organo-Lawn tested around 60 different nozzles to find out which pattern of mist was most effective for application. The result is the first highly effective 100% organic weed killer offered to consumers in Colorado.

One Earth Weed Control is incredibly effective in controlling dandelions, thistle and plantain and should be applied early in the spring growing season for best results. The company sees control rates up to 90%+ when lawns are treated in late April or May. The new application is available exclusively through Boulder based Organo-Lawn. For more information visit www.organolawn.com or call 303-499-2000.

About Organo-Lawn

Boulder-based Organo-Lawn was founded in 1997 by Brad Wolfe whose goal was to create an alternative to conventional, chemical-based lawn care companies by using products that are both environmentally and people friendly. Organo-Lawn’s proprietary lawn-care products include the 100% organic pre-emergent weed control called Synergy and 100% organic fertilizer called Pax Terra Plus (fertilizer) which are specifically designed to work with Colorado’s soil conditions.
