Elder Construction will be building the new facility which includes art and dance rooms, a concession stand with catering kitchen, offices and a theater. Elder Construction anticipates a 7 month construction timeline.

The Art Underground’s new Lafayette Arts Hub location will provide dance, theater, film and visual arts programming for all ages.
The Art Underground Finalizes Plans for a new Arts Hub facility In Lafayette

Since its inception in 2007, The Art Underground (TAU) has become East Boulder County’s go-to non-profit for quality dance, theater, and visual arts instruction. In response to the growing demand for more educational opportunities and to meet the growing demand for arts services, TAU is building a new 14,000 square foot Arts Hub in Lafayette. Lori Jones, Executive Director of TAU, is thrilled to finally be moving forward with this facility that has been in the planning stages for the past three years: “This will allow TAU to fulfill its mission to grow a strong arts community by connecting and providing opportunities for diverse populations through a wide-range of engaging arts services.” The new arts center will include a 195-seat theater with lobby, kitchen/concession area and an adjacent outdoor plaza, art gallery hall, art and dance studios, outdoor sculpture gardens, a community garden, and open space for festivals with a covered outdoor performance area bounded by a community canvas backdrop. TAU purchased a 1.4 acre site in March 2015 at 420 Courtney Way in Lafayette near Highway 287 and South Boulder Road. The site is in close proximity to eateries, shops, arts organizations and Imagine!

This project has been made possible through a low interest loan; however, TAU must raise funds for theater and art room equipment and dance room finishing for full function of this amazing new facility. Programming is anticipated to start in the new building in June 2016 while fundraising for these components and future phase elements continues. To support this campaign, TAU is hosting its first annual gala – “Art Rising!” on October 16th, 2015 at Nissi’s in Lafayette, including dinner, entertainment and a live auction.

TAU will continue its presence in Louisville as well as Lafayette through at least Spring of 2017, providing dance, art and gallery programs in Louisville. TAU is currently pursuing a resident status at the Louisville Center for the Arts which will help secure TAU’s continued presence in Louisville.

The Art Underground (TAU), a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization offering dance, theater, film and visual arts classes for all ages, recently announced its Take-A-Seat Campaign to support a new theatre and community arts center at Louisville’s Steel Ranch development in Louisville, CO.

In the Take-A-Seat campaign, patrons who donate $350 will receive a brass plaque with an inscription of their choice mounted on a theater seat in the 200 seat theater planned to break ground in January 2013. This campaign allows community businesses, families and individuals to support The Art Underground’s mission of increasing community and individual awareness, participation, appreciation and enjoyment of the arts in Boulder County.

The Art Underground, located in historic downtown Louisville, has been addressing the need for arts in Boulder County since its opening in 2007. As the arts community in East Boulder continues to flourish, and the demand for TAU’s classes continues to grow, TAU will be joining with other community organizations in the use of this new arts facility, The Arts Hub, as part of the Steel Ranch development in Louisville. The 200 seat theater included in the development will serve as a community resource and venue for a variety of performances.

“The opportunity to purchase a theatre seat at the new arts center located at Steel Ranch through our Take-A-Seat campaign is truly a unique opportunity to support arts in our community,” said Lori Jones, Founder and Executive Director, The Art Underground. “The Art Underground will serve as the managing organization of the Arts Hub at Steel Ranch although the beautiful new facility will house several non-profit arts organizations, in addition to TAU. Many will benefit from the build of this community based arts center.”

The first seat funded in the Take-A-Seat Campaign was purchased by the Tri-City Elks Lodge in Louisville, a longtime supporter of the arts in the Louisville community. Space is limited as more than 20 of the total 200 theater seats available have already been sold in the initial launch of this program. All Take-A-Seat donations are 100% tax deductible. Contact Heather Frim, Chair, TAU Board, at hfrim@comcast.net to participate in Take-A-Seat program.
