Lafayette, Colorado – WOW! Children’s Museum (World of Wonder) today announced an exciting new community partnership with Children’s Hospital Colorado. As a leading pediatric healthcare provider, Children’s Hospital Colorado will help strengthen WOW!’s commitment to community collaboration, support the Museum’s health and wellness programming, and solidify the Museum’s dedication to the healthy development of young children and their families.

Children’s Hospital Colorado’s partnership support includes sponsorship of WOW!’s Sensory Friendly Playtimes, a series of programs for children with autism spectrum or sensory processing disorders to explore the Museum without the noise and crowds of a typical day. Children’s Hospital Colorado will provide medical experts and resources for families attending the upcoming March, May, July and October Sensory Friendly Playtimes. We are also pleased to announce that Children’s Hospital Colorado will sponsor a Free Day at the Museum on Thursday, May 30. This generous sponsorship will open the Museum doors to all families in the community by providing free general admission for a day.

“Our collaboration with Children’s Hospital Colorado not only expands our programming, it provides our community with child-centric ways to think about and access child development and wellness information. This partnership is a demonstration of each organization’s dedication to the children and families in our community,” said Jennifer Hinderliter, Executive Director, WOW! Children’s Museum.

“This partnership allows us to engage in our passion for child development and the well-being of families throughout our community,” said Christy Dobson, Executive Director of Corporate and Community Relations at Children’s Hospital Colorado. “We look forward to strengthening WOW!’s commitment to educating and connecting children to hands-on experiences, while emphasizing the importance of health and wellness.”

Public Works’ first production, “Wanda & The Wave,” will open in Boulder on June 21-23 at The Wesley Chapel, and show in Lafayette on July 13-14 at The Mary Miller Theater. This whimsical tale about appreciating the world around us will be told through puppetry and is adapted by Blanchard from the children’s book The Old Woman and The Wave by Shelley Jackson.

The show will feature live music scored by local virtuoso musician Brian Mullins of Eldorado Springs, a founding member of the popular local bands Colcannon and Laughing Hands. Shoshana Bass of Boulder, who has worked with the internationally renowned Sandglass Theater, is collaborating with Blanchard on the show’s development and puppet design, as well as performing.

In July, Public Works Theatre Company is offering its “Clown Mini-Camp for Kids” to “explore the fine art of silliness.” Campers will learn traditional clown pieces and present their own showing on the last day of camp. There will be two sessions for different age groups: Session 1 will run July 8-12 for ages 5-8 and Session 2 will run July 15-19 for ages 9-12. The camp will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Lafayette, and registration is currently open.

Praises for Celia the Great - Tricks for Being a Happy Kid

“Celia is a resourceful little girl who uses ‘magic’ to help her follow rules
and make her days easier. Kids will love her creativity, and parents will love
how Celia has learned ways to make good choices!” ~ Sue Wallingford,
MA, LPC, ATR-BC, Art Therapist and Child Counselor, Professor at
Naropa University

“This book made me feel happy. Celia was trying magic tricks to help her
feel better, and I like that. I like her magic word trick the best.” ~ Evan K.,
age 5

“Celia the Great offers truly helpful tools for kids to use and presents them
in a way that they won’t even realize they are learning them! Patience, deep
breathing, politeness, impulse control, and self-soothing are crucial self-regulation
skills for kids to have and are a great reminder for parents, too!” ~
Harmony Barrett Isaacs, MA, LPC, Parent and family therapist

“What a clever premise for addressing behavioral challenges for children.
Because children make connections through literature, the scenarios in Celia
the Great provide an opportunity for children to learn positive behavior in a
magical way.” ~ Shelley Lawton, Kindergarten teacher
