Through the generosity of the course presenter, High Altitude Permaculture, the scholarship was increased to cover half of Michael's tution.

"Permaculture Through the Seasons" course occurs in Boulder, Colorado. It gives students an understanding of permaculture, which is a set of design ethics, principles and practices aiming at sustaining human culture.

Michael's winning essay emphasized his long term goal in taking the course: starting a company focusing on integrative greenhouse design, an area he feels has not been explored by existing greenhouse construction companies. Permaculture, with its emphasis on integrative design, will help him with this goal.

Sandy Cruz, one of the course instructors, said "Permaculture offers creative solutions to so many of the difficulties humanity currently faces, from food production to economic breakdown, from climate instability to cultural alienation. It's so exciting to watch permaculture taking root throughout the Boulder community. Thanks so much to the long-established Boulder Odd Fellows for actively supporting a fresh approach. We welcome Michael to the course!"

This is the fifth annual "Permaculture Through the Seasons" course. The course starts in March, and registration is still open. You can find more details about the course at http://www.hialtpc.org/workshops

The scholarship is sponsored by the Boulder Odd Fellows, a local fraternal organization, promoting education and the community in Boulder since 1890. The Odd Fellows have a long tradition of supporting educational opportunities, and award scholarships for college and educational trips yearly.
