The Art Underground to Break Ground on New Facility Located

at Steel Ranch Development

Center to Offer Arts Education, Performances and Community Events
 

WHAT:               The Art Underground will celebrate the groundbreaking of the future community arts center and theater at Louisville’s Steel Ranch development in Louisville, Colo.  Anticipating opening summer of 2014, the centerpiece of the new Arts Hub facility will be the 194-seat theater.  The building will also include two dance rooms, art and music studio rooms, a set shop, other theater support spaces and an outdoor pedestrian plaza with tables, a future playground, and flexible space for small outdoor performances. The Art Underground’s new 11,345-square-foot Arts Hub will allow the organization to expand its offerings. Gallery exhibits, art film events, music events, literary talks and other community events are all slated for uses.

VISUAL:             The Art Underground board members, staff, program participants, developer, builder and community supporters will gather with shovels for a photo opportunity.

SUPPORT:         Funding for the new $2,000,000+ facility is being raised through grants, corporate sponsorships, community businesses, families and individuals.  The Art Underground has the financing in place to fund the building. But TAU is still trying to raise another $50,000 to $70,000 for theater seats and extra amenities to both the theater and other aspects of the facility. The Art Underground’s Board is selling all 194 theater seats in the “Take-A-Seat” capital campaign, where patrons donate $350 towards a seat and have their family name or loved one recognized on the seat.  Naming rights are also available in the new building to those art patrons that support TAU’s mission to increase awareness, participation and appreciation of the arts.  Naming Rights are also available. OTHER:              The Art Underground is a growing organization that draws from the Boulder County community and beyond. The organization hosts 700 customer visits weekly, averaging 35,000+ visits annually to Art Underground activities. In 2012, youth participants came from 105 different schools. The Art Underground’s dance program was recently voted Boulder Weekly’s Best of Boulder Dance Studio in East County, and the organization placed 4^th for best nonprofit in East County. The new building will allow the expansion of offerings to include more programming for adults, gallery exhibits, art film events, music events, literary talks, community events and cultural arts education. Additionally, The Art Underground plans to bring a variety of specialty programs and professional performances to the space.
