BIRTHDAY PARTY: The Red Rock Ramblers Square Dance Club is hosting a Birthday
Party for Mrs. LaVern this Saturday, July 28th, at the Lyons Elementary Gym, during the Saturday Square Dance. Turn right-North at the stoplight and go two blocks. Friends, family and co-horts are invited to come to the “Open House” to wish Mrs. LaVern "Happy Birthday", have a snack, and enjoy watching the dancing. Dan Nordbye of Mesa, Arizona, will be the caller and Ed Glenn the Cuer. Rounds start at 7:30p.m.and Squares from 8:00-10:15p.m.. We invite you to come or send a Card to Box 9, Lyons, Co. 80540
Although Mrs. LaVern says she is “59 and holding” we wish her a Happy Birthday. She has been operating the Red Rock Ramblers for 54 years, since 1958, the Lyons Redstone Museum for 35 years, since 1977; a member of the Lyons Chamber of Commerce for 40 years, on the Town Board for 8 years (1998-2006; then term-limited, and again 2010-to present) She is a longtime member of the Lyons Parks & Recreation commission, for 47 years, since 1965; and has written her weekly news article for the Lyons Recorder for 29 years, since 1983, to name a few.
She was born July 23, 1927 to Bernie & Irene McConnell. She was raised with siblings: Berene, Violet, Herbert, Sharon and Byron, on the Reese\McConnell farm where the Lyons M\Sr High is and Lyons Valley Park Subdivision. She was Valedictorian of her Class of six
(Gene Mack, Joan Kelly, Helen Archie, Marjorie Van Pelt, and Wilma Guy, in 1945.)
She states “her age sounds so “old”, but she doesn’t like the alternative”, and announces
she is "Glad to be Alive at 85!" She contributes her good health to square dancing. All friends are invited to just walk in and say “Hi”. You can come as early as 7:30p.m or anytime after.
There will be a short program at 9:00p.m. Walk if possible, due to it being the night of the Bluegrass Festival. We will try to save parking by the Museum, or you can ride the shuttle from Bohn Park.
If you come from the Denver-Boulder area, take the Free shuttle from Boulder to Lyons and back
You can leave from the Boulder Transit at 14th & Walnut with FREE PARKING there, going to
Lyons at 5:50pm, 6:00pm, 8:10pm, 9:10pm, 10:30pm, and leave Lyons for Boulder at 7:34pm, 8:44pm, 9:54pm, and 11:04p.m.
