Dr. Christina Schlachter of Boulder was crowned Mrs. Colorado International this month and will go on to compete for the title of Mrs. International 2014 during the final competition to be held for the first time in Jacksonville, FL, July 22-28, 2014.

Schlachter is an active mother of two children, author of three books, including Critical Conversations for Dummies, and CEO of She Leads, a leadership development company. She also devotes her time and talents to support several charitable organizations, including Newspapers in Education and Water.org, which will serve as her platform throughout her reign as Mrs. Colorado International.

Quote& Goals: I am honored to have the opportunity to represent Colorado and bring awareness to a cause so close to my heart: Raising Healthy Kids with Bright Futures. I strongly support two organizations: Newspapers in Education and Water.org. If I could give every child in the world a chance at a better life, I would.  Newspapers in Education helps create awareness about our global community by providing educational resources to teachers and students to get kids excited about current events while increasing literacy. Education truly is the great equalizer, and I am looking forward to helping schools use positive current events to support the national core reading standards, get kids excited about reading, and help kids engage in positive discussions about current events in their community.

But developing Healthy Kids with Bright Futures does not end within our Boulder community. My husband and I have been supporters of Water.org since we brought home our second son from Ethiopia. I still can’t believe the how much he has blossomed with just a few years of education and opportunity. Tears still come to my eyes when I recall our little boy grabbing hold of a water bottle and drinking about ½ a gallon of fresh water for the first time. When we were in Ethiopia we saw children collecting water from shallow, unprotected ponds – this is not acceptable. Water.org partners with communities in 3rd world countries to create sustainable clean water sources.

In addition to each contestant’s charitable platform, International Pageants, Inc. supports the National Heart Association’s Go Red for Women program through volunteer and financial support. The Go Red for Women movement is dedicated to fighting heart disease among women.

The Mrs. International Pageant is owned and operated by International Pageants, Inc., which also operates Miss International and Miss Teen International pageants.  It is the only platform-based pageant system dedicated to highlighting women’s accomplishments through community support.

Mrs. International showcases married women 21-to 56 years old and features three categories of competition, including interview, evening gown and fitness wear.  For more information, visit www.mrsinternational.com.
