Boulder Rotary Club has honored several members for extraordinary service to the club and to the community in 2009-2010. Awards were presented in conjunction with the beginning of the new Rotary year in July.

Norris Hermsmeyer received the club’s Lifetime Achievement Award, presented only occasionally, and for long-term, devoted and effective service to the club. Hermsmeyer, a Realtor, is a past president of Boulder Rotary, a Past District Governor of Colorado District 5450, and a recognized leader of Rotary in the district and in Rotary International. He has initiated three new Rotary Clubs in the area – Boulder Flatirons, Broomfield Crossing and Niwot Rotary – and helped extend Rotary to Dushanbe, Tajikistan, a Boulder sister city. His community activities are many, with an emphasis on history and public areas.

Ted Manning was named Rotarian of the Year, an award made to a Rotarian who has made a significant impact on the club during the year. Manning, a retired educator, a Past President of Boulder Rotary, an assistant district governor and a Rotarian since 1965, was honored "for his present energetic contributions and for his decades of service above self at all levels of Rotary."

Peter Ewing, a retired physician, received the Humanitarian Award. The award goes to a Rotarian who was instrumental in implementing a project that improved the quality of life for one or more individuals or for a community. Ewing was in the Dominican Republic in January, helping to organize a medical program supported by several Rotary clubs, when the catastrophic earthquake struck neighboring Haiti. Working from the Dominican Republic he gathered support from the Rotary in Colorado to launch a relief effort.

Jo Ann Joselyn received the Service Above Self Award, made to a Rotarian who has demonstrated a selfless devotion to serving others. Joselyn, a retired astrophysicist, took part in Rotary activities ranging from international World Community Service projects to local community Meals on Wheels, and directed the club’s participation in Boulder’s Share-A-Gift program, which she co-founded in 1972.

Danny Lindau was awarded the Theme Award, made to a Rotarian who best exemplifies the year’s Rotary theme, "The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands." Lindau, a Realtor, was honored for moving the club’s Four-Way Test high school program on ethics into middle schools, and in expanding the project to include other area Rotary clubs.

Deborah Kelley and Bill Meyer received Quiet Hero Awards, given to Rotarians who without fanfare contribute to the improvement of individuals, groups and organizations. Kelley, an attorney, was honored for her work with new Rotary members, who meet monthly for breakfast to learn more about different facets of the club. Meyer, an attorney, was praised for his years as chair and member of the club’s World Community Service Committee, where his nomination said "he has been … a vigorous and persistent champion of humanitarian aid for people in need."
