As a part of the Boulder County Public Health Department and Boulder Dushanbe Sister Cities' Maternal and Child Health/Women's Health Symposium, March 7 through 15, Community Food Share hosted the Tajik delegation for a day on March 12. Community Food Share staff made a presentation on hunger in our community and how the food bank addresses the issue. The delegation was made up of OB/GYN doctors from clinical, public health, and teaching sectors.

"Community Food Share was honored to host our friends from Tajikistan," commented Katie Koralesky, Community Food Share's Agencies and Programs Manager. "It was a great opportunity to share information about our food bank, learn about hunger and maternal health issues in Tajikistan, and develop friendships with such an energetic and committed group of women."

The delegation also participated in 'hands on' activities in the warehouse such as selecting a cart load of food from the warehouse floor as if they were shopping for their families, creating a traditional Tajik recipe with food from the warehouse floor, and using a pallet jack to move product from dry storage racking to the families shopping area.

Community Food Share's mission is to be a leader in our community's efforts to end hunger in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. Serving the community for 33 years, Community Food Share distributes over 8 million pounds annually, valued at $13.7 million. Food is distributed through a comprehensive network of approximately 50 Partner Agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens/meal programs, shelters, and emergency food programs) and three Direct Distribution programs (which target at-risk, vulnerable populations). Community Food Share is a member of Feeding America (the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization) and of Feeding Colorado (the state food bank association comprised of the 5 Colorado Feeding America food banks). www.communityfoodshare.org.
