January 31, 2012 – Lafayette – Foothills United Way and FamilyWize’s Prescription Discount Card program has saved Boulder and Broomfield County residents $173,090 off the cost of prescription medications.
The numbers come from a FamilyWize 2011 Annual Report. Foothills United Way partnered with FamilyWize in 2010 to bring the program to the two counties. In 2011 alone, more than $88,000 was saved locally by people using the cards.
FamilyWize prescription cards are distributed through local non-profit agencies, City of Boulder services, Boulder County services, Foothills United Way, local pharmacies and others. Cards can also be printed at www.familywize.org. The average savings using a FamilyWize card is 35 percent, or about $20 per prescription. The cards cover all prescription drugs. There are no age, income or residency restrictions, and the card covers everyone with no health insurance or prescription coverage.
There is no cost to obtain or use a card, no cost to United Way or other partners distributing cards, and no cost to pharmacies to honor the cards. Statewide, the FamilyWize program has resulted in prescription savings of $2,580,616.
