Lemonade stand helps neighbors

On July 2, we had the best lemonade stand EVER! Our 3-year-old neighbor, Linden, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer last year the weekend after the flooding.

Since that time, she and her family have spent most of their time at Children’s Hospital, where they are doing everything they can to beat this horrible disease. As you can imagine, that does not leave much time for the day to day tasks such as work and paying bills.

A few weeks ago, my daughter Sam had a lemonade stand and asked if she could give the $18 she raised to Linden and her family. I have to say, my heart “grew three sizes” that day and gave us the idea to advertise her lemonade stand on Facebook and to have it on a Wednesday, Longmont’s bike night, since we live in Old Town and are often on the route. Once again, this fabulous community pulled together and turned out for a little girl’s lemonade stand in droves. We were able to raise more than $4,400. Now that is a lemonade stand!

For a minimum gift of $5. you get to choose a sidewalk square to create your chalk art piece, remember to bring your own chalk or any other water soluble medium. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and judging begins at 5 p.m. For a dollar gift, neighbors will get their chance to cast one vote for first, second, and third place prizes plus honorable mention by Linden, and her sister Annalise. Feel free to stuff the ballot box, but remember, it’s a dollar for each ballot.
