Will Waldrip, 14, and William Spong, 15, have both earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. Only six percent of Boy Scouts earn the rank of Eagle, according to the Boy Scouts of America.

Will and William were recognized at a court of honor held on May 24, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Louisville. Both are members of the Longs Peak Council Troop 264.

To earn this distinction, each candidate completed 22 merit badges, including personal fitness, money management, camping, and citizenship, among others, as well as a substantial community service project. Will Waldrip chose to repair a walking path and clean a pond that were damaged by the 2013 floods at the Boulder Humane Society. For his project, William Spong painted 160 feet of walls at the main entrance hall at Monarch High School. Each project involved over 30 volunteers and 150 hours of work.

Will and William have both served as senior patrol leaders of their scout troop and they both have held leadership positions in the youth groups of their local church. In addition, Will Waldrip has earned a bronze palm, which is awarded for attaining five merit badges above the 22 required for Eagle rank and was a member of the National Junior Honor Society in the 8th grade. William Spong is a straight A student and managed a $10,000 budget for the Monarch Robotics club. Both boys summited a 14er last summer.

Both Will and William are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Will will be a freshman at Fairview High School this fall and enjoys swimming, basketball and football. William will be a sophomore at Monarch High School and enjoys tennis, hiking and Finance.
