Poaching of rhinos (and elephants) has increased exponentially since 2007. The poaching is extremely cruel to the animals. Poachers do not care as the money they earn is significant and the chances of getting caught is less than 5%. Rangers in Africa's National Parks are overwhelmed; they are poorly equipped to confront poachers and arrest them before making a kill. The rhino horn fetches twice as much money per gram as gold! Therefore the poachers, who are often poor bushmen, are hired by criminal syndicates and even Al-Shabaab.

A team of students from 4 universities designs an unmanned aircraft to help the rangers find the potential poachers.

We discuss the poaching of rhinos and the development of the aircraft at a public meeting at the University of Colorado. The meeting is free and is held on February 18 from 6 pm to 8 pm in the Engineering center on Regent Drive in the classroom ECCR 200 on the second floor. Free parking is available (after 5 pm) in lot 436 across from the Engineering Center on regent Drive.
