“ Poppies”–addresses the use of heroin by so many, now prevalent in small town America, sadly with countless tragic outcomes for our youth.  Boldly applied red paint expresses, intensity, richness and the seduction. The radiating lines of the high horizon suggest sacred transformation via the light or the drug.

“Bedstead” transports you back in time; our collective vast western landscape, plowed fields, a deep horizon line, the stark rich dreamlike story-land. Actual physical elements; a cloth draped over the top of the canvas and a bed frame in the foreground help the illusion of stepping into the landscape offering the promise of a new day or connecting you to a past memory.

“ Migration”–Environmental changes force new strategies for our planets survival. Layer upon layer of oil paint and washes build the huge rush of animals stampeding across an expansive land, past, present and future; their marks obscured by the wind.

“ Harvest”–Created following the flood of 2013, this work depicts the contrast of a formally dry vista, the huge brown field now alive with a foreground of water. Children affected by the flooding along the Front Range are pictured. A girl playing in the deep mud, a boy dazed, as he looks past us into an uncertain future. The foreground holds hope in the life-giving force of water juxtaposed by abstracted remnants of exposed trash.
