Beyond the Earth Mother ~ New Works by Grahame Atkinson

Renowned Longmont artist Grahame Atkinson will be the featured artist in the WESTend with his new work Beyond the Earth Mother. In his Earth Mother Series Grahame creates an image that is both of the earth and from the earth. The Earth Mother embodies the past, present and the future, symbolizing the cyclical nature of life. Ancient images meld with the pregnant hope of new beginnings and all that the earth gives to support us on our journey. Beyond the Earth Mother is a series of sculptures and drawings that reflect Grahame’s exploration of the idea of the Earth Mother. This exhibition will have both drawings and sculpture in a variety of media that explore the idea of the inter-connectedness of nature and humanity as epitomized by the Earth Mother. Part of the exhibition will include several larger installations titled “Journey Pieces”.

"My artwork reflects an abiding interest in the Celtic peoples who populated Europe between 800 B.C. and the birth of Christanity. The myths, legends, arts and crafts of the Celts provide me with a springboard for a personal investigation of design and ancient belief shown in the sculptures I create." Grahame Atkinson

Grahame was born in England and studied ceramics to postgraduate level at Loughborough College of Art. He taught for sixteen years at a number of different educational institutions in England, culminating at the Dulwich Foundation. He was a Fulgright teacher in 1987 in Pendleton, South Carolina. Since September of 1990 he has made his home in Longmont, Colorado. Grahme is a member of the Muse Gallery as well as the Longmont Studio Tour. This is his fist solo exhibition in Longmont

A Muse Gallery Glass Installation by Angelo Ambrosia

Local glass artist Angelo Ambrosia is taking his art making to a whole new level. What better way to make the holidays glimmer than with colorful glass. Angelo will take one window of the Muse Gallery and transform it into a colorful glass paradise. Angelo received a grant to create this glass installation. His goal is fill the window with a variety of glass platters varying in both size in color. Angelo commented that one piece of his glass art in the window tends to get lost, but an entire window of glass certainly won’t be overlooked. Join us on Friday, November 13th for the unveiling on the Muse Gallery.
