Fairview High School Fine Arts Department Vies for $50,000 Prize

The Fairview High School Fine Arts Department has entered a national competition sponsored by the wildly popular television show “Glee” that could result in a $50,000 prize and an amazing upgrade for the school’s aging auditorium. Fairview is the only High School in Boulder County involved in the national contest.

The Fairview video submission was accepted and is posted on the national Glee Contest web site www.gleegiveanote.com. Members of the community can vote for Fairview by logging onto the site and searching the entries by state or school name.  Everyone is allowed and encouraged to vote daily through November 7th, and at that point the top 100 videos will advance to the next round of judging.

Fairview High School has had a long history of high-quality extensive choral and instrumental music programs. The program is renowned throughout the region and various groups are invited annually to perform at the prestigious Colorado Music Educator's Conference, held at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.

The prize money would be used toward renovating the school’s auditorium, originally built in 1971. More than 900 Fairview students participate in the Fine Arts Program, which includes 9 choral groups, three jazz bands, three classical music ensembles and the Marching Knights. Only 2% of the funding required to keep the Fairview Fine Arts program thriving comes from the school district. The remaining budget comes through fundraising efforts, and unique opportunities such as this one, throughout the year.
