Local Ultra Runners Share Film about their 160 Mile Run around Mount Kilimanjaro

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, is a challenge on many people’s bucket list. However, the participants of the 2012 Kilimanjaro Stage Run learned that if there’s anything more challenging than climbing Kilimanjaro, it’s running around it.

Last October, ten ultra runners, including Boulder residents Krissy Moehl and Jake Zmrhal, became the first people in history to run a complete, 160 mile circuit around Mount Kilimanjaro. Their experiences were documented by South African film maker Andrew King in a beautiful short film called Mountain of Greatness.

Mountain of Greatness was enthusiastically received by the audiences of the Trails in Motion Film Festival in South Africa and at Rainshadow Running’s Trail Running Film Festival in Troutdale, Oregon. Now, Mountain of Greatness is coming to Boulder.

At 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 23, the Boulder Patagonia store will host a screening of Mountain of Greatness followed by a question and answer session with top female ultra runner Krissy Moehl, extreme athlete Jake Zmrhal, and Simon Mtuy, Race Director of the Kilimanjaro Stage Run.

Doors open at 7:10 and light refreshments will be served. Come with your questions and your passion for trail running.
