RSVP of Boulder County Receives $28,209 Grant from the Colorado Health Foundation Grant to support health education programming on 50Up!

Boulder, Colorado – RSVP of Boulder County announced today it has received a $28,209 grant from The Colorado Health Foundation to continue producing 50Up!, a health education television program that airs monthly throughout Boulder County.

50Up! began in 2006 as a collaborative venture between RSVP of Boulder County and the City of Boulder Senior Services. The program is taped monthly at Channel 8 facilities in Boulder and copies are provided for channels in the other cities. 50Up! provides information regarding healthy living, disease prevention and access to healthcare for people over the age of 50, their families and their friends. According to the Colorado State Demographers office, more than 44,000 Boulder County residents are over the age of 60. That number is expected to reach 70,000 by 2020. For many elderly individuals, television media is an excellent way to gain knowledge and stay in contact with current events. One RSVP homebound client named Francis said, “Without television, I would be cut off from the rest of the world.” 50Up! offers a way for people like Francis to gain valuable life-enhancing knowledge and to stay connected to the community.

RSVP of Boulder County is a volunteer-based nonprofit agency that is dedicated to the creation of a community where everyone can age with dignity. In addition to 50Up!, RSVP provides a core of support services for seniors and adults with disabilities. Services include: escorted medical rides, grocery shopping and delivery, companionship visits, home repairs; including weatherization services, fall prevention, DTV converter box installs and energy kits.
