Stimulus Money to Support Wild Plum Center Expansion

Wild Plum Center recently received word that it will receive over $950,000 in federal stimulus funding to support expansion of its services to include 0-3 year-olds, as well as, pregnant women. Driven by recent community needs assessment data, Wild Plum Center has been working to address a growing need for additional developmental services for low-income 0-3 year-olds and their families. “This expansion is central to our mission. We know that the ages of 0-5 offer an unparalleled and critical opportunity for growth and learning -- to be able to offer a continuum of services throughout this developmental window is very exciting,” Amy Ogilvie, Executive Director.

Funding will allow Wild Plum Center to serve 76 0-3 year-olds, including 12 children in a full-day center-based setting and 64 children through home-based services. Families participating in home-based services will receive 90 minutes per week of one-on-one, individualized in-home support focusing on nutrition, physical health, developmental milestones, and parental mental health. Pregnant women will receive support in accessing prenatal and postpartum care, allowing them to more fully adjust to parenthood and fulfill their parental roles. All families will receive parent education related to their child’s developmental needs, individualized family wellness services, as well as, child and parent socialization activities. “The program is designed to empower parents to promote healthy development in their children, to help them build the foundation for their children’s future education and move toward self-sufficiency,” Amy Ogilvie, Executive Director.

All early developmental services will be provided through the best-practice model, Early Head Start and will be offered bi-lingually in English and Spanish. All Wild Plum Center services are provided at no cost to families.
