Boulder County Students Advance to State MATHCOUNTS Competition

Twenty middle-school students from the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts were named finalists in last week's Boulder Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition, hosted by Seagate Technology. The finalists will compete in the statewide competition at the Colorado School of Mines on March 13 for a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the National MATHCOUNTS Competition which will take place in Orlando, Florida, in May.

One hundred students from middle schools throughout Boulder County participated in the Feb. 6 chapter competition, competing against the clock and each other, to solve mathematical problems.

Teams advancing to the state competition are Summit Middle Charter School in Boulder (1st place), Eldorado K-8 School in Louisville (2nd place), and Southern Hills Middle School (3rd place). 

Individuals advancing to the state competition are: Albert Soh of Summit Middle Charter School (1st place); Jesse Zhang of Southern Hills Middle School (2nd place); Riley Xu of Eldorado K-8 School (3rd place); Larry Zhang of Summit Middle Charter School (4th place); Nathan Lazarus of Alexander Dawson School (5th place); Michael Chen of Eldorado K-8 School (6th place); Christopher Chen of Peak to Peak Charter School (7th place); Joshua Mundinger of Centennial Middle School (8th place); Siyang Sun of Eldorado K-8 School (9th place); Christine Soh of Summit Middle Charter School (10th place), Casey Zhang of Southern Hills Middle School ; Yunyu Lin of Summit Middle Charter School; Nina Brown of Southern Hills Middle School; John Finke of Mead Middle School; Jay Kranzdorf of Summit Middle Charter School; Anatoly Makarevich of Summit Middle Charter School; Rose Wang of Summit Middle Charter School; Max Ruth of Louisville Middle School; and Rohan Jennings of Peak to Peak Charter School.
