SUMMARY:Explore and Experience Meditations
DESCRIPTION:Meditation is a time-honored practice key to developing de
 sirable inner qualities. Confusion can arise because many types of med
 itation have been developed. In this presentation we first provide a b
 road overview from eastern, western, religious and secular perspective
 s, discussing their disparate goals and ethos. Eastern and religious t
 raditions tend to emphasize spiritual values like love, compassion, mi
 ndfulness, and/or connection with spirit. Other perspectives may empha
 size peacefulness and self-knowledge, though there is naturally signif
 icant overlap. We will also delve into current neuroscience studies an
 d discuss the four stages of brain activation that occur during medita
 tion. We will demonstrate and briefly experience four common meditatio
 ns that roughly line up with the four perspectives, giving you a short
