SUMMARY:Portraits of Ability at St. Vrain Community Hub
DESCRIPTION:The Boulder County Department of Housing and Human Service
s (BCDHHS) will host “Portraits of Ability: Stories of Independence
and Inspiration” November 1, 2017, through February 28, 2018, at th
e St. Vrain Community Hub, 515 Coffman St, Longmont, CO 80501. The fre
e exhibit is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30
p.m., excluding holidays.\n“Portraits of Ability” is a photojourna
lism exhibit presented by Via Mobility Services in partnership with VS
A Colorado.\nThe mission of Via, a private nonprofit organization esta
blished in 1979, is to promote independence and self-sufficiency for p
eople with limited mobility by providing caring, customer-focused tran
sportation options. “Portraits of Ability” features 15 “portrait
-stories” of people Via serves, including unique images and narrativ
es which share a common theme – that of striving to not be defined b
y disability or age. The spirit and rich sense of who each person is
beyond their mobility challenges – is captured in photo-portraits
taken by New York portrait artist Sophie Klafter. The exhibit was cur
ated by the VSA Colorado/Access Gallery, the state organization on dis
abilities and the arts.\n“The community Via serves overflows with pe
ople taking amazing journeys through life. Via is thrilled to be able
to share these stories with a wider audience,” said Communications
Manager, Lyndsy Morse. “The St. Vrain Community Hub’s commitment t
o access is a perfect complement to both our mission and the spirit of
the ‘Portraits of Ability’ exhibit.”\nThe St. Vrain Community H
ub is designed to remove obstacles to a wide range of supports, includ
ing access to transportation. The Hub is a “one-stop” health, hous
ing, and human services hub for providers who share many of the same c
lients. Beyond simply co-locating related services, the Hub provides a
holistic approach to meeting clients where they are – and helps gui
de them along a more personalized and positive path toward stability a
nd self-sufficiency.  \n“We’re excited to partner with Via Mobili
ty Services to bring these important visual stories of personal streng
th to the St. Vrain Community Hub,” said Boulder County Housing and
Human Services Director Frank Alexander. “Via’s focus on helping p
romote independence and self-sufficiency is a great fit for the Hub, w
hich has a similar mission for those we serve.”  \n\nFor more infor
