Audience members who wish to tell a 5- minute, true life story on the evening’s pre-determined theme are in vited to put their names in a hat and ten lucky storytellers come to t he stage to tell their story. Teams of audience judges score the stori es, and there is a winner for each slam. The Grand Slam event at eTown is the culmination of our second year of hosting story slams. Truth B e Told sold out all shows in 2014.\n\n“Our audiences reminded us rep eatedly that we had outgrown our venue in the “gathering place” of Shine Restaurant,” co-host Johanna Walker says. “So we’re givin g eTown a try. It’s a good problem to have.”\n\nThe storytelling l ineup for the February 22nd slam is: Lindsay Bourgoine, Michael Mathie u, Glenna Murdock, Morley McBride,Ted Weaver, Eryc Eyl (a.k.a. DJ Savi orBreath), writer Ellen Nordberg, professional speaker Traci Brown, an d award-winning actor Jim Walker.\n\nTruth Be Told hosts Nina Rolle an d Johanna Walker are Boulder-based performing artists who host in thei r own, unique style. From spoken word, to comedy improvisation, one-li ne stories, to musical medleys, Rolle and Walker work with the evening ’s theme across disciplines and provide the backbone of this event. As hosts, their chemistry is compelling.\n\n“If you haven’t been t o the Truth Be Told story slam, I highly recommend it! It’s the best entertainment I’ve seen in Boulder in a long time. Raw art and huma n condition rolled up into incredible laughter and art from Johanna Wa lker and Nina Rolle,” says Myka McLaughlin, a Truth Be Told regular. \n\nRolle enlists local musicians to play medleys on the pre-determine d theme, while Walker comically interrupts these songs with one- or tw o-line stories from her own life.\n“We encourage clever engagement w ith the theme,” Rolle says. “So we take on the challenge ourselves , by working with the theme across a variety of artistic disciplines. \nRolle is a voiceover actor, performance artist and musician known locally for her original, award-winning show, ZEN CABARET: a contempla tive burlesque.
