Denver, CO - A $70,000 grant awarded to Denver Metropolitan Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® through funds made possible by Yoplait’s Save Lids Save Lives® program, that will support breast health education and awareness programs focused on Hispanic women in the Affiliate’s 19 counties service areas. The Fondo Yoplait para la Mujer Hispana (Yoplait fund for the Hispanic Woman) grant will increase awareness, breast education and facilitate access to care for Latinas in Denver and Northeastern Colorado.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among Hispanic women, who also are more likely to be diagnosed in its later stages, when it is more difficult to treat. And although Latinas have lower breast cancer incidence and mortality rates compared to non-Latina White women, they are less likely to have regular mammograms and follow-up for an abnormal mammogram.
By supporting the Affiliate, Yoplait Save Lids Save Lives will be able to help to make a lasting impact in the fight against breast cancer for Latinas in Colorado.

“Our Affiliate is incredibly grateful for Yoplait’s continued support over the years,” said Amarilis Viera, Education and Marketing Director of the Affiliate. The grant will help Komen Denver Affiliate reach Hispanic women who otherwise might not be helped. These women may be unaware of their risk for breast cancer; unable to access the health care system for answers, or unsupported if they do need treatment.”
