Broomfield Academy Adds Additional Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten Classes for Children Ages 3-6

Due to strong community demand, Broomfield Academy has added additional Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten classes for children ages 3-6. “Increased interest from parents in Broomfield, Boulder, Lafayette, Louisville, Superior and Erie indicated that we should add additional classes”, commented Dr. Vanessa Ewing, Principal. Broomfield Academy, a nationally accredited high quality private elementary school in Broomfield, has had a pre-elementary program for over 10 years and many of the children remain at the school to attend first through sixth grade.

A Junior Kindergarten class was added a few years ago to provide a structured Kindergarten preparedness option for four year-olds. With one Kindergarten and the Junior Kindergarten full, the school then added a second Kindergarten class. This past summer, a second Junior Kindergarten “Explorers Class” was added for three year-olds, focusing on exploration and age-appropriate learning.

“Our small class sizes are very attractive to parents who value the high level of individual attention we give to each child,” commented Dr. Vanessa Ewing, Principal. “We now have two Kindergarten classes, taught by Barb Mountain and Lily Hansing, each with nine children. Our two Junior Kindergartens, taught by Brandy Smith and Tammy Jacobsen, are also very small – with between five and 11 children in each class on any given day,” Ewing continued.

The school is accredited by NIPSA, the National Independent Private Schools Association. “Having accredited programs is important to the parents of our Kindergarteners,” noted Barb Mountain, Broomfield Academy Kindergarten teacher. “Their children have the option to enter most public school first grade programs at age five or six, following graduation from our Kindergarten. At our school, most of our five year-olds are reading and writing well above the Kindergarten level, often at the first or second grade level,” she continued.

“The combination of very small class sizes, individualized learning plans and an advanced curriculum have been great for my daughter,” commented a parent at the school. “Combining these three things has allowed my child to excel in the subjects she likes and to get extra attention in subjects in which she needs more time and focus.”

This year the Junior Kindergarten ran throughout the summer, together with the elementary Summer Camp Program. “The summer Junior Kindergarten program is designed to help children prepare for preschool and kindergarten in the fall, while still providing plenty of opportunity for them to have fun and play outdoors”, commented Dr. Ewing. “We keep the summer class size very small, generally fewer than 10 kids. Space in this program is limited, and parents interested in the summer option are encouraged to apply early”, she noted.

Jacobsen commented on the success of the summer program: “My students worked hard on their reading and writing skills, counting, matching and basic math. They had lots of arts and crafts activities that helped develop their fine motor skills, imagination and artistic talent. The kids were outside a lot too, with plenty of water play, gardening, PE and recess. They learned a ton, and had fun too.”

“The older kids at the school were JK ‘reading buddies”, said Michele Horn, the summer program coordinator. “The Junior Kindergarteners and Kindergarteners use the computer lab and our new computers as a regular part of the program, just as our older kids do,” she continued.”

Full-time and part-time (2 or 3 days a week), options are available.
