On Saturday, May 1, Oklahoma Christian University will present a free seminar from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Northwest Church of Christ in Westminster, at 5255 E. 98th Ave. (80020).
The program will provide two tracks: one on Evangelizing Your Community taught by Dr. Stafford North, and the other on Strengthening Marriage and Family taught by Dr. Alan Martin. The University provides such seminars in various locations throughout the year to serve congregations. Both Dr. North and Dr. Martin are on the Bible faculty at OC. North has taught there since 1952 and served in the administration of the University for thirty-eight of those years. His lessons on evangelism will focus on how a congregation can develop a more evangelistic outreach to the community, a topic on which he has recently published a book called Evangelizing Your Community.
Martin, a native of South Africa, has been at OC since 2006 and, prior to this, served congregations as a local minister. At OC he teaches courses in marriage and family life and is a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Martin, who serves as one of the ministers at the Edmond Church of Christ, often conducts marriage and parenting seminars around the country and does marriage counseling. This track of the seminar will encourage husbands and wives in their relationship and also provide useful suggestions about parenting.
In addition to the five concurrent sessions for the evangelism and the marriage tracks, Dr, Stephen Eck will provide a 25-minute message on “What Your Members Need to Know about Estate Planning.” Eck, a lawyer, is an estate planning specialist on the OC staff.
Those wishing to attend the seminar are urged to call the Northwest congregation at 303-466-8414 so the church can make plans for the appropriate number coming to the noon meal which will be served at the building.
