The Art Underground Breaks Ground on New Community Arts Center and Theater
Center Offering Performances, Community Events and Classes
to Open in 2016
The Art Underground will hold a short groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 1:00pm in celebration of the start of construction of a new arts center at 420 Courtney Way, Lafayette, CO. Elder Construction will be building the new facility which includes art and dance rooms, a concession stand with catering kitchen, offices and a theater. Elder Construction anticipates a 7 month construction timeline.
The Art Underground’s new Lafayette Arts Hub location will provide dance, theater, film and visual arts programming for all ages. The Arts Hub facility will be built on a 1.4+ acre lot that will provide opportunities for outdoor amenities to be added as funding allows. The property opens up the possibility for hosting festivals and for complimentary grounds development.
The City of Lafayette and the Art Underground both embrace and promote community, nonprofits and the arts. The Art Underground will continue to maintain its current programming, while developing new adult arts offerings, programs that specifically target at-risk community members, and other programs aimed at following new, artistically creative pursuits. Lafayette has already established a strong “arts engine.” The Art Underground will have many opportunities for meaningful collaborations with other quality, local non-profits and arts organizations. Additionally, the Art Underground will continue offering its high quality programming at its current Historic Downtown Louisville location.
A fundraiser to raise funds for facility amenities, ArtRising!, will be held at Nissi’s in Lafayette on Friday, October 16th at 6:30pm. For more information, go to www.artunder.org.
