What kind of zoom lens did you use and what where the settings? I am a budding photographer and would love any help. I shot with a Nikon DSLR 5300. My largest lens is a 55-300 teleaphoto lens. So any help I would love.

Canon 18-135 lens on a Canon EOS 77D. Set to high shutter speed, other settings on auto. Opportunities to shoot hawks and eagles are fleeting, so you don't have time to fiddle with settings in the field. When I see a hawk resting on a post like this, I will take a shot, walk a few steps closer, take another, etc etc. because at some point he is going to fly away as he sees you coming. This was along Eagle Trail north of town. Since your camera will be handheld, a 300mm lens extension probably wouldn't produce good results -- too much camera shake.
