Backstory Theatre Company is presenting Signing Off an original comedy Saturday and Sunday, August 21st and 22nd at the Broomfield Auditorium.

The play is set as the 1950s come to a close and one of the last real radio programs is hanging on for dear life. The Adventures of Detective Mitch Claymore has been on the air for many years, but it looks like the final episode has finally arrived. Television is transforming the imagination of the people and radio dramas are on their way out. This handful of radio professionals might have one last chance to save their show. With the script fresh out of the typewriter and a wild selection of sound effects, they prepare for the performance of their lives. But this is live radio and as everyone knows in the business of broadcasting, that in itself can be an adventure.

The performance will be directed by Anna Marie Wilcox. She has her BA in theatre and has worked professionally as an actor, theatre teacher, and director in the Denver area.  She has performed with the Denver Children’s Theatre, Town Hall Arts Center, Caravan Players, Denver Victorian Playhouse, Real People Productions, and the Denver Center Theatre.  She started her company, Backstory Communications/Theatre Academy in 2006 and teaches acting classes at the Broomfield Community Center. Wilcox serves on the Board of Directors for the Broomfield Council on the Arts and Humanities.

Signing Off was written by father and son team, Ron and Bret Carter. They have written 10 full length plays, 3 full length musicals, and 10 one acts for Hyland Christian School in Westminster and Real People Productions. They are the founders of Real People Productions, a community theatre group in Westminster.

Ron Carter lives in Thornton, Colorado. He and Bret have written several plays, which have been produced at Hyland Christian School and for their community theatre company called Real People Productions. Ron attended Harding College back in the 50s where he appeared in three major productions and several one act plays. Two of these one acts were written by Ron, and one, A Greater Law, was presented at the Arkansas State Speech Festival where it won first place in the competition. In the 60s, Ron appeared in local Little Theater productions of A Shot In The Dark, Bus Stop, and Someone Waiting.

Bret Carter is a teacher, director, actor, playwright, and published author from Thornton. He, together with his father, has written many full-length plays, one-acts, and musicals, which have been produced by Hyland Christian School, BackStory Theatre, and Real People Productions. Bret was one of six finalists in the 2005 Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers annual novel-writing contest. His short stories have been published in the Boston Literary Magazine as well as others. Bret is also the editor of the Rocky Mountain Christian Newspaper and writes a monthly editorial. In 2008, he was accepted with fourteen other writers in the nation to attend the Orson Scott Card Writers’ Boot Camp in San Diego. Bret has adapted Alice in Wonderland for BackStory Theatre Academy and has been commissioned to write 3 more including this fall's The Master Cat

"BackStory Theatre Company is thrilled to have the opportunity to perform for the Broomfield Community. Signing Off is a fabulous comedy that audience members of all ages will enjoy! BackStory wants to create entertainment that is family friendly and a quality theatre experience,” Wilcox said.

The play is at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 21st and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 22nd.  The Broomfield Auditorium is located at 3 Community Park Drive.  Tickets are available through the Box Office at 720-887-2371.  Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
