Boulder, CO, September 30th, 2008 ---- On Wednesday, October 1st, 2008, at 6:30 p.m., more than 100 women from the Boulder area will come together to fundraise and make 1,000 phone calls to undecided voters to help elect Senator Barack Obama as the next President of the United States. Special guests will include State Treasurer, Cary Kennedy and Maggie Fox, the wife of Congressman Mark Udall.Coast-to-Coast House Parties are scheduled on October 1st , as women from all over the country have organized in a grassroots effort to support the Obama-Biden ticket by sponsoring events on this date. The effort has become a national movement as the gatherings are not driven by the campaign. They have been spontaneously organized by PTO and PTA moms, lawyers, teachers, doctors, stay-at-home moms, and women working two jobs to make ends meet. It is a movement that has grown by e-mail.The Boulder group, Boulder Women for Obama, came together just weeks ago at an informal meeting around a coffee table. Participants have joined together from all walks of life because they feel compelled to act.“A concerned group of us got together when we realized we had to do more to affect this election. It’s not only important, but also absolutely necessary to elect Senator Obama to be our next President. There are so many compelling issues in this election, that we must take a stand. We have seen so many failed policies over the last 8 years that it would be negligent for us to do nothing,” said Diana Fields, one of the group’s organizers. The group cites the failure of policies of the Bush Administration both domestically and internationally as a deep cause for concern. They also worry that women’s issues, specifically, will continue to be diluted under another Republican Administration.Regarding the event this week, Fields said, “The enthusiastic response we have received to Boulder Women for Obama from women from all walks of life makes it clear that Colorado is ready and willing to work for real change in Washington.”
