Aspen Meadow Veterinary Specialists opens doors to new "green" facility; celebrates at Halloween-themed open house this Saturday

Boulder Valley’s premier specialty veterinary hospital, Aspen Meadow Veterinary Specialists (AMVS) invites the public to preview to its recently-remodeled “green” facility from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 104 S. Main St. The new 8,400 sq. ft. AMVS building is striving to be the first veterinary facility in the country to complete Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and is pursuing a zero-waste operation. In business since 2004, the hospital also is certified with Boulder County’s Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE).

This Halloween-themed open house will feature trick or treating, mask decorating, photos with pets, tours of the facility and the Code 3 disaster trailer, a Bowser Bouncer, and music, treats and fun for the whole family -- including pets.

In addition to environmentally focused architecture, construction and operations, highlights of the new hospital design include a reception-area view of the underwater pool used to rehabilitate dogs after surgery; separate waiting room areas for dogs and cats and their families; a kids’ play area in the waiting room; and a special “comfort” room with an outdoor patio area for families whose pets must undergo euthanasia. In addition, each room of the new hospital has been dedicated to and named after pets that have touched AMVS staff members, commemorated with framed photos and stories.

The facility officially opens for business on Monday, Oct. 13.

AMVS provides 24-hour specialty internal medicine, surgery, emergency and critical care, physical rehabilitation, pain management, and blood bank services. Under the medical and business leadership of Dr. Matt Rooney, AMVS’ vision is to be the veterinary specialty and emergency center of choice based on our four guiding principles – compassionate expert care, teamwork, communication, and environmental/social responsibility. Dr. Rooney received his doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) in 1998 and master’s of science degree in 2002 from Colorado State University (CSU) and became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004. He previously served on the faculty at CSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

AMVS employs seven doctors, three interns, 20 nurses, and seven administrative staff members.
