LOUISVILLE FARMERS MARKET: FIRST YEAR A SUCCESSLouisville, Colorado. Big orange pumpkins, worty gourds, Butternut and Acorn squash, local wine, apples, the aroma of roasted chilis and other farmers market favorites are what you will find at the Louisville Farmers Market on Saturday. The harvest is in and waning but with one week left, the Louisville Farmers Market is still going strong. “It was more than we hoped for this first year,” said Kelly Williams, Market Manager, of their first season of the Louisville Farmers Market. “The community was enthusiastic and supportive, we had a good crowd every week. Our farms did well and the community got what they wanted: fresh, local fruits and vegetables, bread and many other products - in their own neighborhood.”With the cost of food and gas, along with national food scares of unsafe food sources it was apparent Louisville was really on board with supporting community and locally grown products and businesses.“We had some non-farm vendors that increased their business by 35% just by marketing their services at the market. I think that is terrific in any economy- let alone this one.”The success can be attributed to Louisville’s desire to have a market, unbelievable community support along with a quality and diverse vendor base.“We look forward to growing the market next year and its continued success.”The last day of the market is Saturday, October 25 and will be celebrated by a Witches’ Brew Tea Party for children from 10 am – 12 pm, hosted by the Huckleberry, the Art Underground and the Louisville Farmers Market.
