Volunteers delivered more than 4,000 energy-saving bulbs during sweeps
Three door-to-door neighborhood Energy Sweeps completed in Boulder County this fall are expected to help eliminate up to 3,187 tons of future greenhouse gas emissions and about $277,000 in energy costs over the next 10 years.
Volunteers went door-to-door in Boulder and Longmont neighborhoods in September and October installing free energy- and water-saving devices for residents. A cadre of 64 volunteers provided help to 389 homes over the three sweeps and knocked on more than 900 doors. They delivered and/or installed:
• 4,197 Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs)
• 120 low-flow shower heads
• 71 hose nozzles
• 127 clothes racks for air-drying clothes
• 16 clothes lines and pins
The sweeps were completed in the lower-income neighborhoods of Mountain View Mobile Home Park and Boulder Meadows in Boulder, and Bohn Farm in Longmont.
Estimated energy savings from the sweeps:
• 326,563 Kilowatt hours (kWh) per year
• 3,789 therms per year
• 2,809,524 (kWh) over the 10-year lifetime of the improvements
• 30,044 therms over the 10-year lifetime of the improvements
At today’s average energy rates, these improvements are expected to save the residents about $34,000 per year.
