You have probably heard of the Daughters of the American Revolution, but do you know who we are and what we do? Would you like to learn more about the DAR? Was your grandmother or aunt a member? The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education. It was founded on October 11, 1890, and incorporated by an Act of Congress in 1896. The DAR headquarters occupies an entire city block near the White House.Membership is open to any woman over the age of 18, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove direct lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. The term patriot means anyone – man or woman -- who contributed to the cause of American freedom between 1775 and 1783.The Front Range Chapter NSDAR is planning a very special Veteran's Day program on Saturday, November 8 starting at 10:00 am.This meeting provides a great opportunity for guests to get to know the DAR and the Front Range Chapter. We welcome you to join us!Last year, Michael Davis presented his highly-acclaimed program on Private Joseph Plumb Martin, and we are fortunate to welcome him back to give The Affectionate Farewell of Tobias Lear. As Secretary to General George Washington, Tobias Lear kept a detailed journal of Washington's life and his passing, offering us a personal glimpse into the life of this remarkable man who did so much to shape our great country. While this presentation is foremost intended to entertain, it is also provides insight to Washington's genius. At the very least, the presentation should serve as a gentle reminder of how fortunate this country was to have had the likes of a George Washington.Following our program, we will leave about 12:30 pm to go to the Armed Forces Tribute Garden in Westminster at 6001 West 104th Avenue. There is a special presentation honoring our veterans from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, and we will honor our own Air Force veteran with a brick in her name. Please call our treasurer, Dee Clark at 303/254-7755, to make reservations for the program and lunch and to get directions.
