Come get to know the Men's Leadership Alliance through our inaugural Wisdom Circle

Men’s Leadership Alliance – Free Monthly Wisdom Circles

The last Tuesday night of each month the Men’s Leadership Alliance presents one evening Wisdom Circle on a variety of contemporary topics. These programs alternate between Boulder and Denver. (May – Boulder, June – Denver, July – Boulder, and August – Denver.)

These programs are free of charge and designed for men and women of all ages. They serve the dual purpose of providing the opportunity to learn more about stimulating and thought provoking subjects and to briefly introduce MLA and its services.

The first Wisdom Circle in this series is titled:

** Finding Peace with Our Fathers **
presented by Tom Daly
7 – 9 PM, Tuesday, May 27, 2008
Shining Mountain High School - Boulder, CO
999 Violet Avenue

This first program of the series we will be looking deeply into the importance of the father role in all our lives. No matter what kind of father we have (or had) or what kind of fathers we are, fatherhood is essential to the creation of healthy individuals, families, communities, and societies. We will look at some of the problems that arise when the bonds between fathers and children are broken and what can be done to heal those wounds. Through a variety of experiential exercises we will explore this essential relationship in our lives and how to find peace with our fathers (and if we are fathers, how this healing impacts our own children.)

Tom Daly, Ph.D., is one of the founders of the Men’s Leadership Alliance. He is a leadership trainer, author, speaker, mentor, life coach, and a nationally respected elder in men's soul work. Tom is a co-creator of the Art of Leadership Training, the Inner King Training and 4 Gateways Coaching. He has led men's groups and conducted rites of passage for over thirty years. He is the father, a step father, father-in-law, and grandfather.

“No man has ever risen to the real stature of spiritual manhood until he has found that it is finer to serve somebody else than it is to serve himself.”
-- Woodrow T. Wilson – 28th President of U.S.

It is from this concept of manhood that a dynamic organization was born. Dedicated to supporting the journeys of men, the Men’s Leadership Alliance (MLA), was brought into existence by Tom Daly, Jeffery Duvall, and Keith Fairmont; who between them have 60 years of experience facilitating men’s work. Their vision was, and continues to be, inspiring authentic manhood.

Manhood. This concept in itself is an interesting and potentially charged study given our current cultural climate. What does it mean to be a Man, an Authentic Man, in 21st century America?

Does it mean you have reached a certain age or moved through a particular life-event? Are you a man when you have had sex, graduated from high school or college, became financially independent, started a family, or bought a home?

The founders of the MLA believe there are four important passages that every man makes in his lifetime: from youth to manhood, manhood to maturity, maturity to elderhood, and elderhood to death. Up until the modern age, these periods of life transition were marked with meaningful rituals created by communities.

In today’s world we celebrate birth and memorialize death. Everything in between is left to chance. Passages left unmarked, absent the potency of conscious ritual, leave a void in the soul. Deep down we know something important has been forgotten.

The MLA helps men remember and provides them opportunities to mark transitions with meaningful ritual. To this end, they design and facilitate a variety of programs, some two days some eight days, addressing the four life passages and the needs of each man.

There is truly a place at the MLA table for all men who feel called to it and much of MLA’s richness is owed to the diversity of men who show up.
