The Lafayette Recreation Dept Announces Awards Received for Preschool Program

On May 8, 2008 five teachers from the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center’s Tiny Tots Preschool Program received awards from the Colorado Association for the Education of Young Children; Cassandra Chop, Sue Terwilliger, Connie Johnson, Lyndsey Mullen and Jessica Kelley. These awards recognize outstanding early childhood educators in Boulder County. The overall program has received awards for 5 years running and is consistently the recipient of multiple nominations.

“We are certainly proud of all the quality teachers who make up the valuable programs we offer,” claims Kathy Apjoke, Early Education/General Programs Specialist.

The Recreation Center run Tiny Tots Preschool services children 2-1/2 through 5 years of age with a 6:1 student/teacher ratio. Three class sections address an age-appropriate curriculum and activities that advance as each child matures. This affordable, licensed program is a valuable resource for community parents and consistently utilizes a wait list system for the many families who want to enroll their children. Due to the ongoing success of this program, the Recreation Department will be looking at the possibility of expanding the program for the 2008-09 school year.
