Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County, a non-profit organization of professional women, has had the privilege of having an outstanding Fairview High school student working with us. Katie Malzbender, a junior, has volunteered for a year as Editor – in – Chief of our monthly newspaper, The Foothills Flash. Katie has contributed approximately 100 hours of service to our club writing feature stories, collecting and editing articles from club members, constructing layout and doing graphic design. She then publishes the paper on line
Katie takes International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement courses at Fairview High School where she will be a senior next year. Katie studies French and received a scholarship to attend the Rassias Foundation Advanced language program at Dartmouth College in 2007. Her skills don’t stop there as she is a student athlete participating in the varsity basketball program and in track and field events and she enjoys singing in the school’s various choirs.
Katie finds time in her busy days to help others. She is a member of the“Circle of Friends”, a group of 5 students who eat lunch and play games with special needs students at Fairview. The Fairview Link Program is another interest of Katie’s in which she is a mentor for incoming students and next year will be a Link Commander. College is approaching and Katie hopes to study international affairs and use her French and also pursue women’s studies.
