Luckily, for all of us, performances of the dancing white stallions have been open to the public for years. Performances used to be reserved for royalty. The beauty of the white Lipizzan stallions combined with the skill of their riders leave an unforgettable memory in anyone’s mind. While imitated, the SRS has never been equaled!Perhaps breeding and training horses for over 430 years has a lot to do with the SRS’s success. Only the best stallions of the Lipizzan breed are chosen for the School. Then they are put through a rigorous training regime starting at four. Only the most talented stallions are ready to perform at nine or ten. Those stallions perform all the moves required of Olympic caliber Grand Prix horses. Then, some horses with the most talent, are chosen to be taught the vaunted and beautiful “airs above the ground” with tremendous strength to leap effortlessly in the air!The training of riders for the SRS is just as exacting as that for the horses. New riders have their teachers control their horses on a longe line for six-months to a year so that they can concentrate on how they sit on the horse, directing the horse without their hands. Riders need at least two to four years of intensive training before they are allowed to train their own horse, an additional four to six years. Then the rider is allowed to perform with the SRS on an experienced horse trained by a more experienced rider.During World War II, General Patton indebted the world by rescuing the Lipizzan horses from destruction. Alois Podajsky, then head of the SRS was the man who convinced Patton (a cavalry man himself) to save the horses. Podhajsky became a major influence on modern dressage by his competition in the world dressage arena and his books “My Horses, My Teachers” and “The Complete Training of Horse and Rider”. The rescue of the Lippizan horses is immortalized in the Disney film “The Miracle of the White Stallions”, with many beautiful performance by the Lipizzan stallions and Podhajsky himself.Herbert Seiberl is a product of the exacting training of riders of the SRS. Due to his extensive training, he is able to direct a rider with clear instructions and demonstrations. Riders who have worked with him have greatly improved and greatly desire to work with him again.Come join us at Caduceus Farm as a rider or as an auditor! As an auditor you are able to view the horse and rider pairs school through their figures as they train the majestic animals in the art of dressage. While most of the horses will not be Lipizzan, they will be beautiful and enjoyable for people from dressage pros to the completely uninitiated who just want to take in the beauty of the horse and the sheer intimacy of the equine-human partnership.
