CASA Volunteers Needed - Orientation in September

Dear folks,
CASAs are Court-Appointed Special Advocates for children. CASA volunteers spend time with children who are involved in the court system as victims of abuse and neglect.

Each CASA volunteer is thoroughly screened. If accepted, the CASA volunteer receives a 40-hour program of intensive training. When a CASA volunteer has successfully completed the program, he or she is prepared to be assigned to a case. Once assigned, they remain with the case, visiting with the child (typically on a weekly basis) until the case is closed.

CASAs help the guardians ad litem attorneys to provide the Court with information about the best interests of the child. The CASA sees the child regularly, usually weekly. He or she also talks with everyone involved in the life of the child. A CASA works closely with the Boulder County Department of Social Service caseworker who has been assigned to the case.

Perhaps the CASA's most important contribution is his or her regular and close contact with the child. CASA volunteers become a much needed support for the child who may be living in an out-of-home placement, and who is overwhelmed by the complexities of the child welfare system.

If you, or anyone you know, is interested in becoming a volunteer, please call
303-440-7059 for further information. A CASA orientation event is coming up in September. Thanks! yours -- Liz Ryan
