A WIN FOR LUVIN’ ARMS ANIMAL SANCTUARY AND THE ENVIRONMENT

ERIE, CO: August 12, 2025, Indian Peaks Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution placed our second bench for visitors to the Luvin’ Arms Animal Sanctuary.

Luvin’ Arms is a sanctuary for abused, neglected and unwanted farm animals. Indian Peaks Chapter, NSDAR, is committed to conservation and the preservation of Erie’s agricultural history. How these two seemingly unrelated non-profits found each other is remarkable. What is so special about a bench? To make each bench, Indian Peaks members partnered with Trex, collecting 1,000 pounds of stretchable plastic to make each bench, keeping more than 2,000 pounds of plastic out of our local landfills.

This partnership developed in the aftermath of the death of Lafayette City Council Member, Tanya Briggs, in 2023. Her passion for neglected animals led her to Luvin’ Arms and our desire to honor her led to our first bench, dedicated in 2024.

"The partnership with Indian Peaks Chapter DAR exemplifies the kind of community collaboration we value at Luvin' Arms. Not only are we providing comfortable seating for visitors to enjoy while connecting with our rescued farmed animals, but we are also making a positive environmental impact by diverting thousands of pounds of plastic waste from landfills. When the team approached us about this project, especially to honor Tanya Briggs' memory and her dedication to animal welfare, we knew it was a perfect fit. These benches will serve as lasting reminders that when we work together, we can create meaningful change for animals, our community, and our planet." Kelly Nix, Executive Director, Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary
