ARRA funding helps with improvements to Manhattan Apartments public housing site/dedication on Wednesday

Boulder Housing Partners (BHP) is pleased to announce the dedication of a new outdoor common area at the Manhattan Apartments, a 44 unit public housing site for families, elderly and people with disabilities. The dedication will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, with a short program at 4:30, at 660 Manhattan, Boulder. The new courtyard features playground equipment, a basketball court, benches, landscaping and a walkway. Funding for the courtyard was provided by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the city of Boulder.

In addition to the new courtyard, the 39 year old stairwells at Manhattan Apartments will be replaced in September. Funding for this important update is provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). BHP received a total of $620,000 in ARRA funds. The stairwell replacement will be the first expenditure of these funds, costing $200,000.

“We are so pleased with the renewed commitment we are seeing towards public housing,” said Executive Director of BHP, Betsey Martens. “The funding from the ARRA has accelerated the process in getting these stairwells replaced. We are so happy to see these funds working in our community.”
