SYNOPSIS
Gramps is idolized by his young, orphaned grandson, Pud, who models his every action after the old man, but both Granny and Aunt Demetria frown on Gramps’ salty expressions and rough behavior. When Death, in the form of Mr. Brink, arrives to take Gramps, he is forced to take Granny instead. Mr. Brink’s second attempt to take Gramps to “where the woodbine twineth” results in the old man tricking Death by trapping Mr. Brink in an apple tree. Upon hearing this story, Aunt Demetria is convinced that Gramps is insane and attempts to have him committed to an asylum, enabling her to gain custody of Pud and his inheritance. Ultimately, the fact that no one can die as long as Mr. Brink remains trapped in the tree forces an unexpected and touching resolution to the dilemma.
