Blitz 9-year-old Team Keeps Rolling With Shut Out Win Over BYFA

Defense was the word of the day on a cold November 15th morning. Broomfield Blitz Youth Football (Blitz) Navy 9-year-old football team stayed undefeated today by beating the Broomfield Youth Football Association (BYFA) 9-year-old, coach select Hawkeyes 22-0 at the Broomfield Commons championship turf field.Blitz normally has high scoring affairs but the game was a low scoring and got off to a slow start that may have been caused by the early kick off time of 8:30 AM combined with brisk temperatures in the low twenties. Both teams were struggling with penalties and poor ball handling in the first half. The BYFA Hawkeyes struggled to advance to football offensively against the strong Blitz defense that has not yet surrendered a point all year in their undefeated season, managing only 4 first downs the entire game (3 by plays, 1 by penalty).“We did not play our best game offensively, as we had too many fumbles, and too many dropped passes but we still controlled the line of scrimmage” said Blitz coach Larry Smith. Coach Smith went on to add “we are playing in a tough tournament in Golden and this match up against BYFA was a good game since we have been off for several weeks. The BYFA team has good players and they played hard”.Each year BYFA assembles a coach select team from the ranks of their regular season rosters to play in the Flat Irons Tournament. The coach select team is a collection of the best players from the league. This year’s 9-year-old team coached by regular season intra league champion Hawkeye’s coach, Joe Harris, is a collection of talented players. To qualify to play in on the 9 year old bracket, players must be no older than 9 years old on September 1st.The Broomfield Blitz Youth Football League ( www.broomfieldfootball.com) plays the highest level of football in Broomfield and are proud members of the Coal Creek Midget Football League (CCMFL). The CCMFL league is currently comprised 124 teams from 9 chapters including Brighton, Broomfield, Commerce City, Erie, Carbon Valley, Hyland Hills, Lafayette, Louisville, Northglenn, and Superior.
