Boulder County Teams Place 1st in National Competition

The Boulder County Horse Judging and Hippology teams, representing the state of Colorado, recently placed first in the National Western 4-H Roundup Horse Classic competition. Their first place wins contributed to the state also placing first in the competition.

The Horse Judging team, consisting of Olivia Fetter, Christa Forsberg, Jessica Mullin, and Jordan Owen placed fourth in halter placings, first in halter reasons, first in performance placings, first in performance reasons, first in overall halter (placings and reasons), first in overall performance (placings and reasons), first in overall reasons and first overall. Individually, Olivia Fetter placed eighth overall, sixth in overall reasons, eighth in halter reasons, eighth in performance reasons, and ninth in overall performance (placings and reasons). Jordan Owen placed fifth overall, third in overall reasons, second in halter reasons, second in performance reasons, fifth in overall performance (placings and reasons), and ninth in overall halter (placings and reasons). Christa Forsberg placed third overall, second in overall performance (placings and reasons), third in performance, fourth in overall reasons, sixth in halter reasons, sixth in performance reasons, and seventh overall in halter (placings and reasons). Jessica Mullin placed second overall, first in overall reasons, first in performance reasons, third in halter reasons, third in performance, fourth in halter, and ninth in overall performance (placings and reasons).


The Colorado Hippology team, consisting of Donna Pattee (coach), Kelly Buchanan, Brenda Cole, Meghan Rickel and Kelly Schick placed first overall, first in the exam phase (written test and slides), first in judging, second in team problem and third in stations. Individually, Kelly Buchanan placed 11th overall and sixth in the exam phase. Brenda Cole placed first overall, first in the exam phase and fourth in judging. Meghan Rickel placed second in judging. Kelly Schick placed fourth overall, third in the exam phase, and third in stations.
