Boulder Housing Partners awarded $1.5 million in low-interest bonds for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects

Boulder Housing Partners (BHP) received $1.5 million in Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds (QECBs) authorized through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and awarded by the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office.  These low-interest bonds will be used to fund renewable energy projects and increase energy efficiency at BHP’s public housing properties.

BHP will use the bond proceeds towards a $2 million Energy Performance Contract (EPC) which will bring weatherization and other energy reduction improvements, as well as water conservation measures to BHP’s eight Public Housing sites.  The EPC is expected to reduce carbon emissions in BHP’s housing by 6,915 metric tons over the life of the project.

“This investment in our housing demonstrates our commitment to provide healthy and sustainable homes to people in all income ranges throughout the City of Boulder,” said BHP Executive Director Betsey Martens.  “We also expect that our investment in making homes energy efficient will help create a substantial amount of “green jobs” in our local economy.”

Boulder Housing Partners is the housing authority serving the City of Boulder.  BHP meets the housing needs of the community by providing four critical housing options: Boulder Affordable Rentals; Public Housing Units; Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers; and Market-Rate Rental Units.  By providing quality, affordable housing that incorporates a sense of community strength and spirit, BHP supports residents' efforts to realize success in their lives and in the community.  For information about help with housing needs, the general public can contact BHP at 720-564-4610.
