The Boulder Oddfellows Lodge, at 1543 Pearl St, Boulder, will be hosting an Open House from 5pm to 7pm this Saturday, October 19, to celebrate it's founding 150 years ago. Lodge members will be giving tours and sharing the history of the lodge in Boulder, and showing a number of photographs and artifacts.
In a time before social security or health insurance existed, Boulder's settlers, miners, millers, workers, and tradespeople came together to form Boulder's Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge in the fall of 1869, with the mission to "visit the sick, relieve the distressed, educate the orphan and bury the dead. " The Boulder lodge continues this tradition in part by supporting local charities, youth events, summer camps, educational programs and sports teams. If you're curious about Boulder's history, Oddfellowship, what could possibly be up there, or why the group is called the Oddfellows, stop by on Saturday for a visit.
