Boulder Rotary honored for ethics, vocational service

The Ethics Award, sponsored by the Parker Rotary Club, was awarded for the club’s Four-Way Test program. Boulder Rotarian Danny Lindau helped organize Rotarians from four clubs to help teach the Four-Way Test of ethical values to middle-schoolers.  This year 435 students at Centennial Middle School took part.

The Four-Way Test suggests guidelines to use in considering ethical dilemmas. Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The Vocational Service award recognized both the quality of the Boulder Rotary’s individual efforts and the large number and variety of programs sponsored.

The Club supports vocational education for Boulder Valley School District high school students, provides scholarship money for high school graduates to attend Colorado universities, and sponsors an Interact Club for high school students in Boulder and a Rotaract Club for University of Colorado students.

The club also is involved with two District-sponsored programs, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards for high school students, and Young RYLA for middle school students, sponsoring students who attend annual camps and providing counselors. A Youth Relations committee hosts outstanding high school students at Rotary meetings. And a yearly Rotation Day allows Rotarians to meet in small groups to visit businesses within the community.
