Boulder Rotary raises $50,000 to fight polio, buy school supplies

December 1, 2008

BOULDER – The Boulder Rotary Club raised more than $50,000 at its annual Signature Event fundraiser, Oktoberfest, held Friday, Oct. 3, at Spice of Life Event Center.

Oktoberfest raised those dollars for the Boulder Rotary Club Foundation to fight polio through Rotary International’s Polio Plus Project. Boulder Rotary’s Polio Plus fundraising honors the late Ty Kaus, a longtime member of the Boulder Rotary Club, whose daughter Bonnie Kaus O’Neil attended the event and spoke movingly of her father’s battle with the disease and his success as a wheelchair athlete.

Additional funds from the Foundation support Crayons Through Calculators, a project of Impact on Education that provides school supplies to several thousand Boulder County children each year.

“Boulder Rotary Club is grateful to the sponsors and donors who made this year’s Oktoberfest celebration a success,” said Rotary event chair Diana Royce Smith.
